The small energy plant EcoZathe in Leeuwarden produces sustainable energy (electricity and warmth) for around and about 800 houses in the Zuidlanden neighbourhood. The fuel on which this plant functions to generate energy is gas that comes from the fermentation of cow dung, corn and waste from the food industry. This gas, which is named bio-gas, is supplied via a five kilometer long pipe from a dairy farm (Nij Bostma Zathe in Goutum). The building has the shape of an armadillo and is a remarkable sight in the green landscape with its prominent orange roof tiles.

The tour takes between 2 to 2.5 hours and the minimum group size is ten people. The tour also contains a video presentation and the group gets to hear about Essent.
