The biggest pump station in the world is impressive. In the huge machine hall are four steam engines with four powerful fly wheels atached to them, all four of the engines are still operational. Ever since 1920 the pump station is turned on at high water levels to get rid of the surplus polder water. Discover in the experience exposition how the pump station functions and why it is still necessary. You can find a 3D movie, a scavenger hunt and a quiz about Jelle’s story. Put on your glasses and follow the head operator: can he save Friesland from flooding? The scavengerhunt can be seen as a stepping stone for- and support of the interim-goals of a starting technical education.

This excursion is appropriate for children between the ages of 10 to 14 and takes around 3 hours. For more information you can contact the visitor center of the Wouda pump station. For more information, visit
