Energy Challenges is a great project! It proves that energy-saving yields money. The thing I like is that youths actively participate in social challenges!

Gerwin Venema - Project manager, Sustainable innovations, Friesland Province

This is how it works

Each school forms a team of ‘Energizers’, who take the lead in making the school and environment more sustainable. During the campaign, the teams will venture out in the world of energy, technology and sustainability and move from knowledge to action and results! The campaign starts with a slamming kick-off and ends with a festive finale.

The energizers all get a big poster on which they can earn eight stars for their achievements. The steps of the stars challenge them to come up with original and creative actions which correspond to school, environment and the talents of the youths. Only by changing your behavior you can already save 15%!

Nationwide project

Energy Challenges is a nationwide project. The project is active at this moment in the provinces of: Friesland, Groningen, Drenthe, Noord-Holland, Noord-Brabant, Zuid-Holland and Utrecht.

TOGETHER WE CAN CHANGE THE WORLD IN 3 STEPS!

1. Behavior

Behaviour plays an important role in saving energy! 10% energy saving is easily achievable on behaviour alone and without any technical intervention. Energy Challenges call out people to lower their energy bills with their campaign and to make the school and environment enthusiastic about sustainability.

2. Technology

Technology plays a key role in Energy Challenges. Firstly, the technology makes energy consumption – and savings – immediately visible to the participating young people. Secondly, a technical inventory is carried out that contributes to making the school building more sustainable.

3. Saving (measurable & visible)

Participating schools will be equipped with smart meters and monitoring equipment. This provides real-time insight into gas, electricity and water consumption. The student, teacher or other administrators can log in online with a telephone or computer so that it is immediately visible at any time what the consumption is and the effect of the savings campaigns.
